For Companies

Company Benefits

Grants & Tax Incentives

Investing in apprentices and trade training is not only beneficial for developing a skilled workforce but also offers significant financial advantages for companies. By supporting employee training and development, businesses can take advantage of grants, tax incentives, and other financial benefits that reduce training costs and improve overall productivity.

Skilled Workforce

Supporting employee training ensures companies have a pipeline of highly skilled workers. This boosts productivity, reduces errors, and increases overall efficiency, leading to long-term business success.

SETA Mandatory Grants

Companies contributing to the Skills Development Levy (SDL) can claim back a portion of these contributions through SETA Mandatory Grants. This supports the continuous development of employees and apprentices.

SETA Grants & Tax Breaks

12H Tax Incentive, and the Employment Tax Incentive (ETI)

With a range of SETA grants, tax breaks like the 12H Tax Incentive, and the Employment Tax Incentive (ETI), companies can significantly lower the cost of training and hiring apprentices while fostering long-term growth and innovation. These benefits not only improve the company’s bottom line but also contribute to the wider economy by developing a more competent and competitive workforce.

SETA Discretionary Grants

SETAs offer discretionary grants to companies that implement training initiatives aligned with sectoral needs. These grants can cover costs associated with learnerships, apprenticeships, and skills programs.

12H Tax Incentive

The 12H Tax Incentive allows businesses to claim tax deductions for registered learnership agreements. This includes a tax deduction upon registering a learnership and an additional deduction when the learner successfully completes the program.

Employment Tax Incentive (ETI)

The ETI encourages employers to hire young workers by offering a tax incentive for each qualifying employee. This lowers the cost of hiring apprentices or young employees, making it more affordable to grow your workforce.

Grants and Tax Incentives

Investing in apprentices and trade training is not only beneficial for developing a skilled workforce but also offers significant financial advantages for companies.

What is ARPL?

The Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) is a formal process designed to recognise and certify individuals who have substantial practical experience but may lack formal qualifications in their trade. It allows these skilled workers to become certified artisans by assessing their existing skills, identifying any training gaps, and preparing them for the final trade test.

How ARPL Works
  1. Entry Requirements
    • Minimum Grade 9 pass with Mathematics and Science.
    • A minimum of 3 years of relevant workplace experience in the specific trade.
  2. Required Documentation
    • Certified copies of ID and highest qualifications.
    • Service letter(s) with detailed tasks, contactable references, and proof of 3 years of experience.
  3. Pre-Assessment
    • A pre-trade assessment is conducted to evaluate the candidate’s readiness for the trade test.
  4. Gap Training & Revision
    • Based on the results of the pre-assessment, candidates may need to undergo 5 to 12 weeks of gap training to address any skills deficits.
  5. Final Trade Test
    • Once the candidate is fully prepared, they take a two-day trade test to validate their qualifications and certify them as an artisan.
